When the inhibit period is not specified, then irrespective of the normal cyclic stage
sequence, priority demands which are received after the commencement of a priority
change, will be serviced in cyclic order based upon the priority demands and after any
priority extensions (subject to the priority maximum running period) are satisfied. An
exception may be made for LRVs - see Section 9.4.6(a).
An inhibit period will only be introduced when a priority change has lead to a running
phase being prematurely terminated or a demanded phase has been omitted.
In the case of a controller having 5 or more stages, the inhibit period may be
introduced following any priority change, irrespective of curtailment or omission of a
stage.
The inhibit period will be terminated either after a pre-selected period has elapsed,
which period shall be adjustable by means of a switch(es) or other approved means
over the range 30 to 150 seconds in not more than 10 second steps, or by right of way
being granted to the priority phase whichever occurs first.
A priority demand stored during the inhibit period will be cancelled if the demanded
phase is served at the normal VA level during the inhibit period (this will also cancel
the inhibit period).
A preselected extension (the compensation period) to the normal maximum running
period will, when specified, be given to nominated phases the first time they run
following a priority change, if they were curtailed or omitted by the priority change.
The compensation periods will be adjustable over the range 0 to 30 seconds, in not
more than 2 second steps, selected individually for each signal phase for which
compensation is specified. This may alternatively be effected by switching the
maximum phase running period(s), in which case the timing increments may be
seconds. Different phases may be compensated as a result of priority changes to each
priority phase.
In the case of a controller having 5 or more stages, the compensation period may be
given following any priority change, irrespective of curtailment or omission.
If a compensation period is curtailed by a priority change, the compensation period
may be reapplied on the next cycle.
If the compensation periods are required on a phase as a result of two separate priority
changes, these compensation periods will run concurrently.
Each signal phase omitted or curtailed by a priority change will always be serviced in
the normal cyclic order following a priority change.
The receipt of a priority extension request, during an inhibit period, for a running
priority phase will result in a priority extension and priority max running period being
introduced.
