T400 Controller Facilities Manual
667/EB/20200/000 Page 23-1 Issue 9
23. MOVA (MICROPROCESSOR OPTIMISED VEHICLE ACTUATION)
At present, MOVA is implemented in separate units which monitor the movement of
vehicles through an intersection via their own independent loops and then adjust the
operation of the controller to optimise traffic flow.
These units are interfaced to the controller via the controllers UTC interface which
allows the units to influence the controller.
23.1 INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONNECTING MOVA TO TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS
1. Stage Green confirms and, where required, phase green confirms will be open
circuit during green. They will be short circuit at other times except as detailed
in item 3.
2. Ready to control bit will be short circuit during normal operation, except as
detailed in item 3, and open circuit when manual control is operational.
3. Stage green confirm 1 and 2 and ready to control bits will all be open circuit
during the following conditions:
a) Manual Control
b) Selected Fixed time if available
c) Selected VA time if available
d) Signals switched off (manually or fault log)
e) Lamp Supply fuse blown
Note: On older controllers, the ready to control bit need not be open circuit
for all these conditions as long as the double green is output.
4. Force bits closed contact provides the force signal. The force may be either
demand dependent or not, depending on customer request. If the force is
demand dependent, then DX bit closed contact must insert an unlatched
demand for that stage whilst the force bit is present. This then ensures that
when the forces disappear the controller will work correctly to street demands
only and not be affected by the state of the DX bit. Note: if there are no
demand dependent forces, then DX will not be set.
5. Common detectors including Push Buttons - none of these will be driven from
the controller ports using conditioning.
The output of the detector/pushbutton can be wired directly both to the controller
input and the MOVA input. Usually the detector will be configured as open circuit
equal to vehicle present.
Normally, these wires/signals to and from the MOVA unit will be listed in the spec. to
wire to the individual points of the controller, i.e. UTC interface blocks, the detector
input terminal blocks, the pushbutton terminal blocks etc.
