If Fixed time to current maximum is to be the default/lowest mode of operation. Then
VA is configured once and special conditioning written such that when VA mode is
operational, permanent extensions and demands are inserted.
(N.B. It is Normal to have Fixed time to current maximums only as an alternative to
“Selected Fixed Time” and not as the default mode.)
This method of operation has been created so that the following are possible:
- Phases which appear conditionally may be excluded from having
permanent demands and still rely on local demands for their appearance.
- Any set of maximum green timings may be introduced giving four sets
of fixed times by the master time clock.
With Selected Fixed Time to current maximums, when NORMAL mode is restored
there will still be demands present for all non-running phases, so no vehicles will be
trapped against a red signal.
In the example in Figure 21.5, both methods of fixed time working are illustrated
although only one may be implemented.
In the standard Fixed Time mode, it is required to cycle between Stages 1, 2 and 3
using stage durations 15, 10 and 18 respectively.
In the fixed time to current maximum mode, it is required to have phases C and D
dependent on local demands. The controller will then cycle between Stages 1, 3 and 4
with stage durations defined by the current maximum green times. If Phase C or D is
demanded, it will cycle Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4.
9.11.3 Fixed Time Parallel Stage Streaming Facilities
There are two options:
9.11.3(a) Independent Fixed Time
Each stream will have its own fixed sequence of stages and will move around it
independently of the other streams.
9.11.3(b) Linked Fixed Time
Fixed time mode can be configured to provide Linking between stage combinations in
different streams as an alternative to ‘normal’ fixed time mode which forces moves on
each stream independently.
A maximum of 16 fixed time steps will be provided. Specified for each of these 16
times will be a configured stage combination. See the following example.
When linked fixed time is introduced, the Controller will move to combination 0,
combination 0 time duration will start when all stages have appeared. When time 0
duration has expired the controller will move to combination 1 and combination 1
