9.2 PART TIME MODE
During part-time mode, normal traffic control operations are suspended and signals
blackout is selected. In order to achieve this, Part-time mode must always be
programmed as the highest priority mode.
On the change from normal to off, ROW moves immediately to Stage 1, subject to any
delays caused by minimum greens or intergreens timing off and also subject to any
stage movement restrictions. Following the expiry of all minimum greens in Stage 1,
the signals are extinguished.
On the change from off to normal, the Start-up mode is entered to ensure normal
operations resume in a safe manner.
The normal method of switching from Part-time mode to normal traffic operations is
by means of the master time clock at specified times of the day.
An alternative method is by means of queue detectors. If a queue of traffic is detected
then Part-time mode is deleted and normal traffic operations are introduced for a
certain period e.g. 20 minutes. At the end of this period, Part-time mode is re-
introduced unless a queue is still being detected, in which case the normal traffic
operations will continue until the queue is not detected for a certain length of time.
Alternative signal sequences, e.g. flashing amber for traffic phases during night-time
may be obtained if required (for Export Controllers ONLY).
For alternative signal sequences, see section 14.
Part-time mode may be used to introduce flashing amber by the following methods.
a) Handset
b) Manual Panel switch (SW1, 2 or 3 as configured.)
c) Time switch event
See the special conditioning section 20.3 for an example.
Note: it is a requirement of the Department of Transport that Part-time mode may only
be used if accompanied by a Red Lamp Monitoring facility, see Section 19.2.
