25.4.2(a) Configuration Options
The effect of a second red lamp fail on the RLM delays can be configured (C4) for
each RLM group to either:-
a) No effect, i.e. the RLM delays remain in force while RLF1 is active.
or
b) Inhibit any RLM delays due to RLF1 on this group. In this case, the RLM
delays are applied only while the RLF1 indication is active and there is no
second red lamp fail (RLF2 indication) on the same RLM group.
When the RLF2 indication is activated, any RLM delays already active are
timed to completion but on subsequent stage changes, no RLM delays are
introduced due to the RLF1 signal for that group (although the same phases
may still be delayed due to the RLF1 signal on other groups).
If the RLF2 indication is removed, and the manual reset is entered if ‘latching
RLM’ operation is selected (C6), but RLF1 is still active, then the RLM phase
delays are re-introduced.
The controller can be configured (C6) for either latching RLM or non-latching RLM
operation:-
a) For ‘latching RLM’ operation, the effect of the RLF1 or RLF2 signals is
maintained until a manual reset is performed, even though the RLF1 and/or
RLF2 signals are de-activated. The manual reset is detected by clearance of the
RLM fault entries in the T400 fault log, i.e. lamp replacement followed by
RFL=1.
or
b) For ‘non-latching RLM’ operation, the effect of each RLF1 or RLF2 signal is
removed when the signal is de-activated, i.e. when the lamps are replaced. In
the case of part-time junctions, non-latching RLF2 operation can not be
achieved since the lamps were switched off when the failure was detected.
Latching of RLF1 and RLF2 can be configured separately, e.g. RFL1 non-latching and
RLF2 latching.
25.4.3 Operation With Free-Standing RLM Unit
When operating with the free-standing RLM unit, the controller can be configured to
provide either the original RLM facility (see the following section) or enhanced RLM
operation (as described above).
If enhanced RLM operation is configured, the ‘second fail pending’ signal, RLF3, is
not supported by the new facility and so the controller should be configured to give
sufficient red time when the first fail occurs. This is to allow for the longer confirm
time of the free-standing unit.
If enhanced RLM operation is configured, only the first RLM group is used.
