T400 Controller Facilities Manual
667/EB/20200/000 Page 25-1 Issue 9
25. ANCILLARY PROCESSOR (Integral OTU/LMU/RLM)
25.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Ancillary Processor is a double extended Euro sized PCB which connects to the
T400 Main Processor via the Extended System Bus. Configuration information for the
Ancillary Processor comes from the Configuration PROM on the T400 Main
Processor PCB. Handset access to the Ancillary Processor is via the handset socket on
the Main Processor board.
25.1.1
FUNCTIONAL APPLICATIONS
25.1.1(a)
Integral/Enhanced Red Lamp Monitor
The RLM function is required at part-time signals and at junctions which are fitted
with pedestrian audible or tactile devices. The vehicle red lamps are monitored and
when lamp failures are detected, the operation of the controller is modified to ensure
that unsafe signal conditions do not occur.
The basic differences between this RLM facility and the original described in section
19, is that this facility provides:-
eight indepandant RLM ‘groups’, i.e. eight 1st and 2nd fail indications,
greater configuration flexibility to action the failures,
a much faster response time,
The RLM function is provided by the T400 firmware operating in conjunction with the
Ancillary Processor card. The hardware comprises of a T400 ancillary processor card
(667/1/02239/001), together with current monitoring transformers (toroids) and a
voltage monitoring transformer. The ancillary processor card resides in the T400
module rack and communicates with the T400 main processor card via the extended
system bus ribbon cable. (The T400 can also operate with a free standing RLM unit,
giving reduced facilities - see section 25.4.3.)
One current sensor per vehicle phase and one per pedestrian phase with wait boxes is
required for full lamp monitoring. So a 16 phase controller will have 16 current sense
transformers, each transformer having the wires feeding the red, amber/wait and green
signals passed through the toroid. For part time and Audio/Tactile sites, only the
opposing vehicle phases need be equipped with current sensors.
This RLM function, which applies to intersection controllers, should not be confused
with Pelican Red Lamp Monitoring, which is specific to Pelican crossings (i.e.
MCE0125, MCE0145) and is implemented in hardware on the T400 2-phase drive
card.
