should be specified. If alternatives are specified, it is preferable for the
alternative stage to be one or two stages ahead in cyclic order of the original
target stage. For example:
If the move 1-2 is not allowed
the alternative could be 1-3 or 1-4.
2. The use of the following group influences should be avoided if possible, but if
not their use, i.e. the group time and Group position within the plan, must be
considered carefully.
i) Hold
ii) Prevent
The “GO VA” influence should not be used at all as this will nearly always
cause disruption to the Synchronisation of Controller and Plan, even when used
in CLF in general.
3. Group times should be a minimum of the maximum intergreen between the
stage associated with the group influence and the stage associated with the
previous group influence. Plus the longest minimum green of the phases
appearing in the stage associated with the group.
For example, if Group 0 is an immediate move to stage 1 and Group 1 is an
immediate move to stage 2, then the minimum time for group 1 should be
longest phase intergreen between Stage 1 and 2 and longest minimum green of
phases appearing in Stage 2. Longer Group times will obviously aid
synchronisation.
9.9.8(f) Grouptime Changes
A grouptime for any group within a plan which is not in operation can be altered by
handset at anytime during the day and when the plan is subsequently introduced, it will
immediately be synchronised with any other controllers which are running the cycle
time of the new plan.
If the grouptime for a group within a plan is changed by the handset whilst the plan is
actually running, i.e. current, then in the normal CLF system, this would mean that the
controller would not be synchronised with another controller which was running the
new cycle time, unless there was a plan change away from current plan and
subsequently back to the same plan. This problem is solved in two ways.
1) Use ‘CCP’ Command (Handset)
If the operator after changing a grouptime within the current plan, enters a
‘CCP = 1’ handset command this will cause the controller to introduce the
current plan thus introducing the new grouptime(s).
2) Use Background Timer (Automatic)
