5. CALL/CANCEL
5.1 GENERAL
There are up to 8 call/cancel units (0 to 7) available which may be used for turning
movements or in conjunction with queue loops or switched facilities.
The input to a unit must remain active for the call period before the output goes active,
and inactive for the cancel period before the output returns to the inactive condition.
If the call/cancel unit is used for a turning movement, then the output would be
configured to insert an unlatched demand for the appropriate phase to allow for it to be
cancelled.
The call and cancel delay times that are programmed may be changed via the handset
using the DCL and DCN commands.
The timing range of both the call and cancel period is 0 to 255 seconds in 1 second
steps.
In the example in Figure 21.7, detector loop C1 must be occupied for 3 seconds for the
demand for Phase C to be inserted and unoccupied for 3 seconds for the demand to be
cancelled.

STAGE 2

CX
(Only phases and
stages relevant to
call/cancel are shown)
In this situation the controller can be configured to operate in various ways as shown,
where
AX - always calls and extends phase A.
BX - 1) extend stage 1 only, or
2) extend stage 1 until call for stage 2 then extend stage 2, or
3) extend stage 1 and stage 2
CX - a call/cancel that demands and extends stage 2
Note:- A demand for stage 2 may or may not be dependant on a side road demand. If it
is not, then a backwards move from stage 2 to 1 via all red must be allowed.
For details on the high-speed detectors AHS and BHS, see section 6.11.
