10.5 PREVENTED STAGES/PHASES
The deletion of a stage or phase, which may be achieved by use of the master time
clock, see section 11, may be simulated by preventing them when certain conditions
occur using Special Conditioning Software.
If a stage is prevented it will be omitted from the cycle.
If a real phase is prevented, then the signals will remain at red whenever a stage that
the phase normally appears in is active. If the prevented phase is the only phase
allocated to a stage, then the stage will not appear in the cycle.
If a dummy phase is prevented, then any effect its appearance has on stage changes or
timings will be cancelled.
The prevention of stages or phases is effective in all modes except Fixed Time mode.
In the intersection in section 21, Figure 21.20 illustrates a special stage change
condition during VA mode for the move 1-4, i.e. a demand for Phase F and no demand
for Phase E. Normal VA stage change conditions would cause a stage change 1-3.
To achieve the move 1-4, Stage 3 would be prevented while the required conditions
occur, i.e. in Stage 1 with a demand for Phase F and no demand for Phase E.
If any of the conditions are cancelled before the move takes place, e.g. a demand for
Phase E is inserted or a change to Stage 2 occurs, then the prevent on Stage 3 would
be removed.
