T400 Controller Facilities Manual
667/EB/20200/000 Page 9-3 Issue 9
(b) Amber Leaving/Red Display.
Following the blackout an amber leaving signal is shown to all traffic phases not in
Stage 1, continue signals off to all traffic phases in Stage 1 and a red signal to all
pedestrian phases.
(c) Starting Intergreen
At the end of 3 seconds amber leaving, the traffic phases not in Stage 1 change to red,
the traffic phases in Stage 1 continue at signals off and all pedestrian phases continue
at red. This state continues until the end of the starting intergreen time (as specified in
Figure 21.4), when the traffic phases in Stage 1 change straight from signals off to
green and any pedestrian phase in Stage 1 change from red to green as normal. Any
green arrow phases in Stage 1 will illuminate as normal.
The start-up mode is now finished and the controller will assume the highest priority
mode. During the start-up sequence demands are inserted for all phases to prevent any
vehicles being trapped against a red signal.
9.1.2 Optional Start-Up Sequence
The start up sequence is as follows:
0 seconds All signals off.
7 - 10 seconds later All 3 aspect vehicle phases and pedestrian phases show the red
condition and the starting intergreen period starts. The Phase will
remain at Red for the duration of this period which consists of the
Starting Intergreen time plus an additional time equal to the amber
leaving time (3 sec).
Following the red period above, phases in the startup stage are set to green. (Start up
stage is the one selected to be the first stage to become active after start-up.)
The start-up mode is now finished and the controller will assume the highest priority
mode.
Also during the start up mode, demands will be inserted for all configured real phases
(not dummy phases), to ensure that no vehicles are trapped against a red signal.
Note the start up stage should not be deleted. (As controller will fail to start up if start
up stage is deleted.)
9.1.3 Start Up Parallel Stage Streaming Facilities
The start-up stage for each stream is configurable. This determines the stages that the
controller starts up in when powering up, when coming out of Part Time, or after the
signals have been switched off from Special Conditioning (using the method that
implements start-up). Figure 9.1 illustrates the start-up sequence for the intersection in
section 21.
