9.8 SELECTED FIXED TIME, CLF OR V.A. MODE
Manually selected ‘FT’, ‘CLF’ and ‘VA’ are selected by mode select buttons ‘FIXED
TIME’, ‘CLF’ and ‘V.A.’. The modes selected are recognised as modes for priority
purposes and for use during UTC mode.
The respective mode will only become operative if SELECTED FIXED TIME, CLF
or VA mode is a higher priority than the current mode.
These mode select buttons may be used to force the controller to work in VA, CLF or
FT mode rather than in a mode (UTC, Priority, etc.) which would normally be higher
in priority than VA, CLF or FT. Because although VA or FT is usually configured as
the lowest priority mode, SELECTED VA/FT/CLF is treated as a separate mode, and
can be configured higher up in the mode priority table.
(N.B. Priority demands and associated VA demands are latched and will affect the
operation if VA is selected. However Priority mode will not become operative and
Priority maximums will not take effect.)
9.9 CABLELESS LINKING FACILITY (CLF) MODE
The cableless linking facility (CLF) allows a method of linking traffic intersections
along a route and/or in an area using timing information derived from the master time
clock system (MTCS) in their controllers. Different Plans are used during the day to
cater for varying traffic patterns.
CLF consists of Plans which are made up of Groups. A Plan can have up to 16 groups
(0 to 15). Each group has a time and an influence allocated to it. When a Plan is
introduced, each group in the Plan is in turn selected to run. As each group is selected,
its particular influence/effect on the controller is applied for the duration of the time
allocated to it. The total of all the group times is the cycle time for a Plan.
Thus, at a particular time of day, a pre-defined plan can be introduced to enforce a set
of fixed duration effects on the controller.
Therefore, if a group of controllers each have ‘Plans’ designed for them, and they are
all introduced at pre-determined times by the accurate Real time Master time clocks in
each controller, it can be seen that the actions of the controllers can be co-ordinated,
so as to create a fixed time form of control for a whole area.
When Plans are introduced, they normally start with the introduction of Group 0 and
cycle around from that point.
However, there is an alternative method of Plan introduction and this has been
designed to ease the drawing up/designing of Plans where different areas need to be
brought into the CLF Scheme at different times of the day. Because, if Plan
introduction always starts with group 0, the time at which the Plan is introduced will
