T400 Controller Facilities Manual
667/EB/20200/000 Page 9-8 Issue 9
9.3.3 Control Bits
See Figure 21.14
9.3.3(a) Demands - Common (DX) and Stage (D1,D2 etc.)
A ‘D’ bit simulates local demands, i.e. detectors or pedestrian push-buttons.
‘DX’ bit normally demands all phases and extends all extendible phases.
‘D’ bits normally demand and extend (where required) the phases within the specified
demand dependent stage.
The demands may be latched or unlatched as required, although normally they are
latched.
Demands for pedestrian phases do not normally illuminate the WAIT indicators,
although they may be programmed to if required.
Timing delays associated with call/cancel facilities are not applicable, although
demands may still be unlatched.
Any demands dependent on other demands may still be effective.
The demands may be programmed so that they are only effective if the appropriate ‘F
bit is present with the ‘D’ or ‘DX’ bit.
If required it is possible to program the controller so that demands for phases may be
ignored for certain stages.
‘D’ bits may be used during CLF, VA, Bus Priority or Emergency Vehicle modes as
well as UTC mode.
In the example in Figure 21.14, ‘DX’ demands all phases and extends all extendible
phases. ‘D2’ demands and extends phase C and ‘D4’ demands phase H.
See also 9.3.4(9.3.4(f)).
9.3.3(b) Forces (F1,F2 etc.)
An ‘F’ bit forces the controller to make an immediate move to the specified stage,
subject to any minimum green or intergreen periods timing off and any stage
movement restrictions.
An ‘F bit may be demand dependent if required. If it is, the move will only occur if
there is a demand for a phase within the specified stage.
In the example in Figure 21.14, ‘F2’ and ‘F4’ are demand dependent forces.
