24 Testing the Watchdog
NOTE:
In order that the Watchdog function is available on a server PC, the PC system a must have an
integrated Watchdog board.
We recommend integrating a Watchdog module type PWDOG1 from Quancom.
Further information can be found in the Installation Manual in chapter 6.2.
The Watchdog restarts the system in case of certain events, such as a server
crash.
Function
If the PC system has an integrated Watchdog module from Quancom, this
watchdog acts as a timer which closes a relay contact after a specified time. In
normal operation, the timer of the SISTORE MX NVS server is continuously
restarted so that it never runs out. If the system gets into a state in which it no
longer reacts and can no longer reinitialize the watchdog, the timer runs out, the
relay contact is closed and a restart is triggered via the reset line of the system.
Testing the Watchdog
Prerequisites
z The PC has an integrated Watchdog module from Quancom.
z The SISTORE MX NVS software has been started.

z The SISTORE MX NVS software is in configuration mode.

1. Select the Watchdog tab.
2. Click Test.
Î The SISTORE MX NVS dialog will open.
3. If you want to avoid a reset of the system, pull the reset wire from the main
board of the SISTORE MX NVS server.
4. Click Yes.
Î The system will be closed down and restarted.
