Example for a linear axis:
An incremental encoder supplies 2500 pulses/revolution. The leadscrew has a pitch of 5 mm/revo-
lution. The position encoder thus supplies 2500 pulses for a path of 5 mm. The IP 240 can process
up to 19,999,998 increments within the permissible actual value range (-9,999,999 to+9,999,999).
An AFL value of ”4” thus computes to the following values for the maximum traversing range and
the travel per increment.
Traversing range= ·

Specified resolution = 4 (increments/pulse)
Travel/encoder revolution = 5 mm
Pulses/encoder revolution = 2500 (pulses)
