XDMC Digital Message Card
The Model XDMC Digital Message Card allows the FireFinder XLS voice system to support up to 300 automatic or
manually activated audio messages. The XDMC can play two messages simultaneously, and up to two XDMCs can
be used in a single system simultaneously. The card can store up to 100 minutes of phrases in its onboard
memory, and the system can assemble these phrases into the 300 messages.
Users can configure the FireFinder XLS system to associate a message to a particular event. Events and their
associated messages can be sent to one or more speaker zones on the system, with the ability to prioritize the
events. This means that a particular event can cause an evacuation message to play in one area, and an alert
message in a second area. If an event then occurs in this second area, the alert message can be changed to an
evacuation message by the proper use of the priorities. Message can also be sent to speaker zones manually by
activating switches on the SCM-8 module on FireFinder XLS.
The XDMC gets mounted in a single slot of a CC-2 or CC-5 card cage. It communicates with the DAC-NET using the
CAN communication bus. Like other cards that communicate via CAN, it must be mounted within the same
enclosure as its associated DAC-NET. Diagnostic LEDs on the XDMC indicate power, communication, fault, and
activation status.
Phrases and messages are configured using a new software tool called Composer. The Composer tool is included
in the Zeus custom system configuration tool. Composer lets users import .MP3 or .WAV files to create a custom
phrase library. Then, phrases from a default phrase library (also included with Composer) and a custom phrase
library can be used to build messages. Composer also allows user to also configure properties of the messages, like
adding pre-announce tones, minimum number of rounds, continuous play, or message duration.
The use of the XDMC on FireFinder XLS requires the system to use several new revisions of system firmware and
software. Systems must use PMI Rev. 9.02.0019 or higher, DAC-NET- Main Rev. 4.27 or higher, and Zeus Rev.
9.02.0015 or higher. The XDMC is supported on systems using either the PMI-2 or the PMI.
Communication with Cerberus detection and input devices
FireFinder XLS 9.0 now supports communication with and all of the features and application setting of the new
Cerberus detection devices that were first introduced as part of the Cerberus Fire Safety fire alarm panel rollouts
and will soon be released.
FireFinder XLS 9.0 also supports the new SBGA-34 audible base.
Since the new detection devices require less current for operation, using these devices on an XLS instead of an
HFP-11 or HFPT-11 may result in lower power requirements and smaller battery size for a system.
Additionally, all input modules supported on FireFinder XLS 9.0 (HTRI-S, HTRI-D, HTRI-R, HTRI-M and FDCIO422) can
have their inputs configured as carbon monoxide events. This allows you to monitor 3
rd
party CO detectors if
required.
